Anouk Jouanne is a contemporary dancer, performer & photographer. Originally from Reykjavík, Iceland, she now works between the Nordic countries and the UK.
As a performer she’s been a part of numerous projects spanning traditional stage productions, site specific performances, music videos & film projects. Credits & collaborations include Sung Im Her, inklingroom, Gregor Petrikovic, Goat Girl, Gabriella Engdahl, Alice&Synne, lisa luxx, Jasmin Kent Rodgman, Alexandra Green, Kiri Leigh Zullo, Kandinsky, Marta Hlín Þorsteinsdóttir & Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
Anouk is a founding member of the improvisation performance group I ; N Collective. Made up of nine dancers based around Europe they practice instant composition dance theatre making. The group has worked with groups & organisations such as Company of Elders at Sadlers Wells, Child Studio, Age UK and Youth Theatre Japan.
As a maker she’s usually drawn towards themes of the past, folklore & the landscapes' effect on personal & the communal perception of the body.
Her directorial film debut is titled ‘№ 193’ where she also acted as choreographer & movement director. Her second piece, a dance short titled ‘Prelude: A recounting of two futures & a past’ was released with support of Flux Projects, as a part of their short film series ‘Holding On’. Both films are made with DOP Scarlett Gardner, accompanied with music by composer Joanna Ward.
As a photographer she works solely with analogue methods. Starting with the fascination of the tangibility of analogue & an interest in capturing dance from a rehearsal perspective. She’s photographed numerous dance & performance rehearsals as well as promotional material, including for artists Alice&Synne, Nozomi Yamanami, Freddy Houndekindo, Honestly Casual Projects & Gabriella Yiannakou. She handprints her own work in open tray (colour & BW) & continues to explore different methods in the darkroom & how to continue building on the photographic process in the tray.
She’s had her work exhibited at Vertical Terrain, curated by Synne Lundesgaard (Ugly Duck, London, 2022), Gutter Sprung residency, curated by Hannah Mason (The Horse Hospital, London, 2023) & at London Art Fair as a part of ‘Photographs of Movement’ curated by Flux Projects in January 2024.
Alongside performance & choreography Anouk frequently works as a photographers assistant & in various show operation roles.
