Figura Serpentinata

Created in collaboration with Gregor Petrikovic, Isis Clunie, Alina Sakko & Ella Posti

Music recorded live by Jacob ‘NTHNL’ Rudin at the ISCP Open House studios in NYC on 9th of August 2023

The 16mm film, influenced by the figura serpentinata style, features four dancers adopting sculptural poses that enhance their dynamism. As the film progresses, these body-sculptures peak before gracefully disintegrating onto the floor. The camera's framing and layering techniques heighten the sense of both unity and chaos as the bodies disintegrate, reflecting the dancers' interdependence in a cyclical process of breakdown and renewal.

Figura Serpentinata is loosely based on the work of the late Mannerist sculptor, Giambologna, called Abduction of Sabine Woman, 1581-83, placed in Florence.
