The Normal World
Welcome to a performance of never-ending sunshine, inflated identities, and seducing waters. At least almost.
Choreographed by Gabriella Engdahl, The Normal World blends contemporary dance and physical theatre, looking at identity through a landscape of inflatable costumes. Within the setting of a swimming pool, The Normal World follows four characters as they explore the façades humans hide behind, social norms and desirable superficiality. The performance takes you on a journey through a surreal atmosphere, where depth and humour are combined and where the bottom of the pool never looked more inviting.
Performed at Central Saint Martins, Västerviks Simhall & The Place (Resolution Festival - Opening Night 2022)
“Strikingly cohesive, each element of this work’s design adds to the artifice of the scenes unfolding on stage ... Intelligent and funny with an edge of despair, Engdahl and collaborators have crafted an engaging world of polished artificiality.”
